Ureteral stent or so-called double J, which is also
called spring in popular speech. The ureteral stent is a narrow tube, flexible
and long, which is placed in the ureter during surgery through the urethra by a
urologist. It should remain in the ureter for about 3 weeks to a month, and then
it is removed by a urologist through an outpatient surgery.
Because the ureteral stent has two J-shaped heads, it is also called double J. During surgery, a stent is placed inside the ureter using a ureterscope, one end is fixed at the entrance of the kidney and the other end is placed in the bladder.
